Layout of Llyn Gwynant Campsite
Nantgwynant, North Wales

The Find Us page has maps that show how to find the A498 road. The campsite is accessed from the A498 on a sharp turnoff above the lake. This turn should be taken only from the left, i.e. when traveling up the hill. If necessary travel down past the entrance then turn in one of the laybys at the side of the lake (see the Nutshell caravan location map for details). Once you have turned off the A498, the campsite entrance will be the second turning on your left - the first is the barns driveway, used only by groups with reservations, see Group information.

The campsite entrance is over a cattle grid, with a short road to the main camping area where you will find a parking area near the toilet block. In the main holiday season a campsite warden's caravan is parked nearby (the second photo on our campsite areas page 2 shows this area).

The lake shore at the front of the campsite is for recreational use of all campers. No camping or vehicles are allowed between the lake and a row of white marker posts. Campers who want a more secluded experience can park their cars at the back of Pen Helen and walk to Bridge field. Others can simply drive to their camping area of choice. In the busiest season there may be portaloos to supplement the toilet block. Images of the campsite fields can be viewed in page 1 and page 2 of the camping areas photos. Details of the fields are as follows:

Pen Helen: The most popular field for camping is bordered by the lake and river. This is for public camping where tents and cars are allowed. Up to 10 caravans are allowed at the edge under the trees that separate this field from Ddôl Fawr. See campsite areas page 1 for images.

Bridge field: is beyond Pen Helen, bordered by the river. This area is for tents only, no cars allowed. Parking is available at the back of Pen Helen. Groups may be able to use this field by prior arrangement. See campsite areas page 1 for images.

Ddôl Fawr (Large meadow): the back field beside Bridge field where vehicles are allowed, but not caravans. See campsite areas page 1 for images.

Ddôl Fach (Small meadow):a sheltered area close to the toilet block, where vehicles are allowed but not caravans. See campsite areas page 2 for images.

Cae Hendre: Also known as "the hollow" this field lies below the barns. This is not on the public campsite but is an area reserved for large groups, who may optionally choose to hire the barns as well. No caravans or vehicles allowed. See campsite areas page 2 for images.

Barn field: This field is alongside the barns, away from the public campsite, and is reserved for groups who may optionally choose to hire the barns as well. No caravans or vehicles allowed. See campsite areas page 2 for images.

Barns: These historic buildings (the Dutch barn is listed grade 2), are available for hire by groups and offer a basic accommodation or activity centre, see our Barns page or download our barn information pdf document. Images of the barns are on page 2 of our camping area photos. Electricity, portaloos and running water are available. Groups using the barns may park in the yard area in front of the low barn - this parking area is accessed by turning left off the access road, and can clearly be seen in the map above.
