Touring caravans and campervans at Llyn Gwynant Campsite
Nantgwynant, North Wales

Llyn Gwynant campsite is primarily a tent camping site, and is without power hookups, but we do allow caravans and campervans, so long as the following restrictions are noted.

Touring caravans: We have planning restrictions on caravans Only 10 caravans are allowed on site at any time (15 on bank holiday weekends), and our planning permission requires that they are sited only on the main camping field Pen Helen. Although we do not require bookings for campers, we do allow bookings for caravans as a service to ensure you are not turned away. A non refundable booking fee of £10.00 is charged for this service, and it is not normally needed in the low season. We do not accept bookings starting on a bank holiday Saturday.

Campervans are not subject to planning restrictions. We welcome small vans, such as the VW campervans, and there are many places on the site where these can be parked. However please be careful if the ground is soft (after rain), not to drive them onto the grass causing damage to our fields, keep to the roads and road side please.

Large campervans and motorhomes (which require special registration) are not ideal on our campsite as they do cause damage to the roads and fields, and they must be kept in a limitied area we have available, which is on hard standing near the lake shore, accessed by a short track opposite the Rates sign at the entrance to the campsite. We only have room for 4 = 6 such vehicles at a time. Please park parallel to the tree planting at the edge of this hard standing so there is room for other vans beside you. When this area is full you must talk to a warden - do not drive out of the main carpark. This designated area is very near the lake with lovely views and the grassy beach area beside you, so there is no reason to take your vehicle onto the rest of the campsite.

Other information you should know:

Access from the main road: Use care turning off the main road (A498). This is very sharp and it is very dangerous to attempt to turn right as you travel down hill (from Pen y Gwryd to Beddgelert direction). Instead please either turn at the lakeside laybys, or else you can travel to Nantgwynant where there is ample room to turn right in a loop and head back up the road without any difficult turn. Once you are heading back up the valley take the sharp turn left off the A498 as the road climbs up past the lake, then turn left again at the campsite entrance.

Where to park on the campsite: Our planning permission requires that caravans must be parked on the main camping field (Pen Helen if you want to look at the layout map on our website): notices on the site indicate where carvans can and cannot go - turn left after the gate onto the main field. Small campervans and trailer tents are not restricted but should not venture onto soft grass. Large campervans and motorhomes must stay on the designated hard standing by the lake, opposite the rates sign.

Chemical toilet disposal: Our chemical toilet disposal currently goes into the campsite septic tank. This means that we cannot tolerate formaldehyde based chemical toilet solutions being used on our campsite.  We can supply at cost eco-friendly biodegradeable solution if you do not have it – ask our warden for details.

Electric hookups: Sorry we do not offer electric hookups. We do have hot water and free showers, and hair drying points. We offer a re-charge service at our reception building, as well as a freezer for icepacks or food.
