Daily updates from Llyn Gwynant Campsite
Nantgwynant, North Wales

Wednesday 7 May. The beautiful weekend weather is continuing at Llyn Gwynant this week. If you are lucky enough to have an extended break now is a great time time come and enjoy the mountains in their majestic spring glory. Below is photograph taken over the weekend and kindly sent in to us by one of our campers, Paola Nannig.

WHITSUN BANK HOLIDAY UPDATE. We are getting a lot of enquiries regarding booking for the coming Bank Holiday weekend. Just a reminder that we cannot take bookings other than for groups of 20 or more, as we do not have designated pitches to reserve. Normally there is no problem for other campers to get a pitch. However on the Bank Holiday weekend it is possible we will get full and have to turn people away, although this has never happened on a May bank holiday in the past.  We are however getting busier every year and can only suggest that you arrive as early as possible, preferably on the Friday night, to avoid disappointment. Although it is unlikely that we will be completely full we are unable to guarantee a pitch for anyone arriving very late on Friday or on Saturday.

Tuesday 1st April 2008. Planning: Thanks to those of you who sent a letter about our planning application for a new permanent reception building, we are really grateful. We'll let you know when there is any further news on this.

Friday 21st March 2008. Website: We have added a few new pages to the website. Functions at the barns, inluding birthday parties and weddings, are becoming more popular so we have a special Functions page and separate booking form for functions, accessed off the Barns link. We've also put up some more pictures - some marvellous wildlife photos which include amazing shots of an otter, check out the link Wildlife photos from the Conservation link. These were taken by one of our campers in September last year. Send us any photos you have of the local wildlife.

Friday 14th March 2008. We opened for the new season yesterday. Today is a fine, cool and sunny and the valley looks glorious!

Planning: We currently have an application for a permanent reception building at the entrance to the site. We did get permission for a building right at the entrance, but we are now seeking to put it nearer the toilet block, and have designed it to look similar to the toilet block - it will be a stone faced building with slate roof at right angles to the toilet block and will be partially screened by a new hedgerow at the entrance. The building will have a covered space at the entrance under a hip roof where we plan to display maps of the area and the telephone sheltered from the weather. The building will also include an internet room and a laundry/drying room, as well as the warden area we have in the current temporary building. We believe this building will be more discrete and also more useful than the one we obtained planning permission for. If you support us, please urgently write a letter before 24th March to the National Park Officer, Penrhyndeudraeth, Gwynedd LL48 6LF. Head it Re: application NP2/11/90R for construction of a detached reception office at Llyn Gwynant Campsite, and tell them why you support it. It helps if you say how often you visit the campsite and you could also mention that the entrance is invisible from all but the road into the campsite, that we need a central information point, telelphone, laundry and sheltered area. We do not believe the local planners understand or approve of campers. We do not want an overdeveloped site, but we do consider this is essential for the comfort and safety of campers. We will be extremely grateful if you support us!

Tuesday 30th October 2007. Although darkness is descending on the valley early these days, the campsite is still open and in full autumn glory. For those of you hardy enough to brave the cold, we will be staying open through to the end of November so get your tents out for one last time this year.

Thursday 19th April 2007. Bagged firewood prices increasing to £4 this week We have kept the price of our bags of firewood at £3 per bag for 6 years now. Unfortunately the local sawmill that supplies the "chips" (the pieces left when points are cut on fence posts) is unable to supply the quantity we need. This means we need to purchase more expensive seasoned split logs to make up the contents of our mixed bags of logs and kindling. Even at £4 per bag we think our logs represent good value and are comparable to the prices of logs in service stations which range up to £5. We dropped the £1 charge for firepits at the start of last season. Please note that it is one of our rules that ONLY bagged wood purchased on site is used for campfires at Llyn Gwynant. This is to ensure that no firewood is gathered from local woodland (most of which is National Nature Reserve or Sites of Special Scientific Interest). We can easily distinguish bagged logs from the branches, large logs, fenceposts or other timber that is gathered in the woods, and if we find any such timber it will be confiscated (whether gathered locally or brought onto site).

Providing firepits and allowing campfires is a service provided by Llyn Gwynant Campsite, we appreciate your cooperation by adhering to our campfire conditions of use.

Payments can now be made online using our secure Payment page.

Noise bonds for groups. Due to ongoing problems with large groups and late night noise last year, large groups may be asked to register and a noise bond may be required. The bond is fully refundable at the end of your stay provided campground regulations are observed (particularly the noise levels after 11pm). The amount is at the discretion of the of the duty wardens up to £20/head in cash. Please be prepared for this and do not be offended if one of our wardens requests it, they are only doing their job - see Group regulations for more.

The Llyn Gwynant barns have been upgraded this winter, with more work to come. The previously derelict barn now has a new roof. The interior of the camping barn has been upgraded. Check out our new barn pages for what we now offer groups who can use the barns for camping or for functions.

Pease check out our weather link on the left - here you can look at several weather sites for the latest view on what will happen weatherwise in the Snowdonia National Park, and also see some live web cam views of the area to see for yourself. The view of Snowdon from Elidir Fach is especially worth looking at - this is just a couple of miles from the campsite.
