December 2nd: the weather has turned cold! We thought you might like to see how the lake is looking just two days ago. We officially close on Monday 6th December but those who have been planning to come this weekend (and we know there are some of you), should perhaps think again... it is very cold down there. We did have some hardy regulars last weekend when it looked just like this too, with snow on the ground.
And in case you're wondering what we do once the camper crowds have gone, take a look at our winter project: the new reception building. This is where we're up to as of today. Hard to know when the slates will be on given the uncooperative weather!.
June 16th: the weather looks good! We're expecting lots of sun this coming weekend, so why not come out for a camp in the mountains? This is our low season price too, just £7 per adult per night, with hot showers included.. after the very busy bank holiday a couple of weeks ago, you'll now find this a peaceful place to enjoy the natural environment. You can see how green the valley is now compared to the photo we took two months ago!
Whitsun bank holiday saw lots of campers at Llyn Gwynant enjoying the weather (after a bit of drizzle on Friday). As usual on these busy bank holidays it becomes a bit of a festival atmosphere and thank you all for being so friendly and well-behaved. Those in the know get good at using the showers out of the morning rush hour! We had some new adventure activities this weekend which proved popular, including kayaking to the end of the lake and gorgewalking from there up through some beautiful waterfalls. We're planning more of these creative activities and of course our normal and popular boat hire operation continues down on the riverside near the lake front. If you have a group interested in one of our activities then you can book this ahead - send us an email. This Saturday 24th April is our annual fundraising musical event in the barns. This is the one time when the campsite may not be as quiet as usual, for the event is an all-night one. Although we do try to keep noise levels down, we ask that you keep away if you want the normal peace and quiet of Llyn Gwynant! We only do this because it is in a good cause - we have raised thousands of pounds for the Red Cross by holding this event. 19th April 2010: Wonderful spring weather: Many of you have turned up at the site in the two weeks or so since Easter, to take advantage of the wonderful weather. Just take a look at what you've been missing if you haven't come! One of our campers has also posted a great panorama of the campsite (of last year's May bank holiday) on You Tube: you can check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsbROs1FeOw
Our boat hire has also been popular, here's a picture of the site from the water from last Saturday:
1st April 2010: Easter weekend weather: We are open for easter but please be aware that there were snowfalls in the area on Wednesday 31st March. There is no snow on the campsite itself and the snowline is about 100m higher up in the hills than the campsite. The weather forecast is for some rain and perhaps more snow over the weekend so it is not ideal camping weather and the ground is quite damp. We will be keeping vehicles off most areas of the site but there is plenty of parking and you will only have a short walk (10 to 50 metres) to camping areas. For those planning a walk in the hills be aware that there will be thick snow on the mountains and there could be some avalanche risk on steep slopes.
1st March 2010: Price increase from May 2010: We are sorry to say we are going to have to increase our prices for 2010. The increase in VAT, and a massive increase in business rates means government (central and local) wants to take an extra £20,000 of your money before it gets to us to help run the site. So from Friday 14th May our adult prices will increase by £1 per head - to £7 for the low season and £9 for the high season. To help offset this increase for families and many of regulars who stay for extended periods, we will be offering £1 per day off those prices for stays of 5 days or more. So for long stays there is effectively no change in the price. This is our first increase in the low season price for 6 years. The is no increase in our child or youth rates, or for our camping barns. 1st February 2010: Opening date announcement: We plan to open for the 2010 season on Friday 19th March. 21st January 2010: Building update: Over the winter we have been busy working on our new reception building to replace the wooden chalet we have used the last four years. This was a temporary structure, and was not allowed as a permanent building under the Snowdonia National Park planing rules. The new reception is sited nearer the entrance to the site, quite near to the Rates sign, and so we can continue using the old building while we finish the new. The new building is larger with a slate roof, nearer the toilet block and quite invisible from the road. We hope to have the new reception finished mid-way through the season. It will include a laundry/drying room. In the meantime there will be a little bit of disruption in our car parking area as we get on with the building work. However it shouldn't be too noisy as we've had the walls go up in the winter. You w ill notice improvements to our showers too, as we are having the ones at the back of the toilet block lined with tiles. This should improve their appearance and make them easier to keep clean. There is no plan to charge for showers. We have also been busy on the barns over winter, with the lean-to roof now supported by large beams. The roof itself will be replaced very soon, before the main season begins.
